Importance of a Notary Public
Why is a Notary Public so important? Simply put, they are an Official Witness of the State that records your signatures and confirms or validate the identity of the person signing in front of them. In this day in age where fraud is in every business sector and numbers of stolen identities continue to grow, a Notary Public is a good, first barrier in combating fraudulent transactions related to your signatures. It is especially helpful when it comes to real estate property. Official 'Witnessing' goes back centuries, in fact.
Although the method is slightly different today, a Notary Public will record the Identification information, take a thumbprint and take an oath or affirmation from the person signing and witness the signing. If a certain transaction ever comes into question, the Notary Public must provide a copy of that journal entry to either Law Enforcement and/or Judges with a petition of subpoena.
So Notary Publics take their duties seriously because they witness serious transactions. Are they worth the $10 per signature and minor travel fee? Definitely. If your document ever comes into question and it was Notarized, rest assured you did the right thing and had it officially witnessed.
Notary Publics are truly important no matter the decade or century!
